B Team | vs | Racing Mouse |
Saturday December 11 2021
Result; Clifton St. Vincent’s 6 – 0 Racing Mouse The B’s returned to League action keen to keep their winning run going. It was a calm winters afternoon on the Downs and conditions were decent for a game. As hoped the B’s came out of the blocks with lots of energy and high tempo carving open a handful of good chances early on. Hornby sliding two very presentable chances to McIntosh which weren’t converted. However, soon after Hornby again slid a pass in behind and this time McIntosh outpaced the defender to get in a one on one position and sent a lovely shot into the far corner. Clifton St. Vincent’s 1-0 Racing Mouse The B’s continued to press and soon found themselves 2 goals to the good when a corner was half cleared and Finney’s shot was fumbled and split by the keeper allowing Stock to react quickest and smash in from close range. Clifton St. Vincent’s 2-0 Racing Mouse The game was halted numerous times for certain Clifton St. Vincent’s players (mainly McIntosh) to sort laces out much to the frustration of Racing Mouse. The backline of Lopez-Bland, Stock, Pearce, Stewart were dealing with any occasional Racing Mouse threat and the B’s continued to press. Soon after Finney’s lobbed through ball should have been dealt with by the Racing Mouse GK but he came rushing out and flapped at the ball missing it completely and Chailett pounced on the opportunity and tapped into an empty net. Clifton St. Vincent’s 3 - 0 Racing Mouse Just before half-time Racing Mouse created a rare opening and their forward managed to get in front of the Clifton St. Vincent’s centre backs and rounded Cooper only to be brought down inside the box. The vast majority were expecting a penalty to be awarded (including most of the Bs), but to their relief the referee said no. Half-time came and went with the obligatory ‘next goal is massive lads’, and the B’s came out in search of more goals. The first 10-15 mins were however in Racing Mouse’s favour and they were using a long ball approach into their forward to try and create problems for the Vincent’s defence. In fact Racing Mouse soon had an absolute sitter which thankfully was blasted over the bar from 6 yards out! A lovely counter attack from the B’s however saw an exchange of several passes resulting in McIntosh squaring to Stanleigh inside the area who’s shot became more of a pass and found Ellet at the far past to smash it in. Clifton St. Vincent’s 4 - 0 Racing Mouse This sparked the B’s into life and they went on to dominate the rest of the half. A lovely cross from McCollough found Wilson on the run inside the area who planted a firm header into the back of the net Clifton St. Vincent’s 5 - 0 Racing Mouse There was still time for more and some neat play from Vincent’s saw a ball fizzed into the box for Hornby to try his luck. The ball was blocked but rolled very kindly to McCollough who side footed the ball with pace into the bottom corner. Clifton St. Vincent’s 6 - 0 Racing Mouse MoM– Very close this week numerous nominations (6 different players) however it went down to Hornby and Pearce, with Pearce pipping it by a vote. Line up – A Cooper, M Lopez-Bland, T Stock , J Pearce , J Stewart, M Stanleigh, , M Chailett , L Finney, S Ellett , W Hornby , M Wilson , C McIntosh , J McCollough MS |
First Team | vs | Bohemia |
Saturday December 11 2021
Result, Clifton St. Vincent’s 2 – 1 Bohemia Clifton started the game determined to continue where their victory the previous week left off. The conditions on the day had settled nicely although the cold meant everyone had to keep moving. Clifton started the game seemingly in control, throwing attack after attack at them with a few half chances carved out here and there. Unfortunately they lacked that perfect final ball to really finish it off. It seemed like all the hard work had paid off however when Will Mitchell converted a lovely cross from Marsden Murison only for the linesman to rule out the goal as he adjudged it to have crossed the line before Marsden crossed the ball. Bohemia defended well and even carved out a few chances of their own, but nothing too serious to test stand in keeper Ross Blackman, who was seeing to have a comfortable day in the office even chipping the ball over their strikers head at one point. Disaster struck for Bohemia when their keeper clattered into Seamus Nickless-Mooney, with the referee pointing to the spot without hesitation. Unfortunately for Clifton Seamus would miss the resulting penalty making it 5 in a row missed but he would manage to convert the rebound making it 1-0 to Clifton. Clifton St. Vincent’s 1 – 0 Bohemia With Clifton now fully in the driving seat they began to pile more and more pressure onto the Bohemia defence which would lead to Nik Dahnawoor converting Aineias Arango’s cross to make it 2-0. Clifton St. Vincent’s 2 – 0 Bohemia A screamer from Bohemia would catch everyone off guard and leave the final 10 minutes very tense as Clifton held on to a deserved 3 points. Line up : Ross Blackman, Nick O'Hara, Will Mitchell, Andrew Kevern, Ashley Reeve, Stuart Gardner Dyf Davies, Marsden Murison, Toby Burn, Nik Dahnawoor Sol Ayunga. Subs : Seamus Mooney, Aineias Arango, Paul Davies. MoM : Stuart Gardner |
B Team | vs | Torpedo A's |
All Saints Cup | Saturday November 27 2021
Looking for a 5th win in a row, The B’s squad had been disrupted through players being called up, some having to work, and others with the old ‘bad kebab’ excuse! The B’s were up against Torpedo A team from Division 3, and the conditions on the Downs were quite frankly awful. It wasn’t just the GK’s wearing gloves today and even some Thierry Henry style leggings were spotted. Strong winds blowing across the pitch was going to make for a scrappy game. The opening minutes was fast and furious, and the ball was being smashed from end to end. It was only 10 mins in when Torps worked the ball into the B’s box and a quality strike from them saw the ball hit the top corner. Clifton St. Vincent’s 0 - 1 Torpedo A The setback put a rocket up the B team and rather than feel sorry for themselves they came back fighting and took the game to Torpedo. The midfield of Ellett, Stanleigh, Mansfield & Finney were going toe to toe with Torps and sending Carvell & Todd into the channels to try and move themselves into dangerous territory. A half chance fell to Stanleigh on the edge of the box who saw his shot narrowly over the bar. Hornby entered the game mid-way through the half and wasted no time getting stuck in. Some slick passes between Mansfield and Lopez-Bland saw the latter able to whip a ball into the box where he found Ellet lurking, who chested the ball to take the pace off and then struck a fine shot into the far corner. Clifton St. Vincent’s 1 – 1Torpedo A Moments later Carvell was bundled over just inside the Torps box, however the ref deemed the foul to be just outside! Soon after Ellett had another fierce shot tipped around the post. The B’s were content at halftime but could sense a potential opportunity to get even more from the game. The second half started with Clifton St. Vincent’s dominance, and now with the wind behind them, they were causing Torpedo all sorts of problems. Pearce, Stock , Downes and Lopez were now very comfortable with Torps attacks and Cooper was for the most part a spectator! The B’s carved out a variety of chances in the 2nd half, most noticeably a free kick whipped in by Todd which found a flick on, beating the keeper and rolling goal bound, only for Stock to smash it in from a few inches but also from an offside position. Some other half chances fell to Todd, Finney & Carvell, but Vincent’s just couldn’t find the winner. Torps occasionally threated and a fierce strike from just inside the box saw Cooper very casually save it with his foot by trapping the ball under his studs. Into the last minute it seemed that a draw was inevitable. As the clock ran down, Mansfield passed a through ball to Carvell to chase who got to the ball first but was well wide of the goal with still lots to do. Carvell then pushed the ball past the left back and muscled him out the way, suddenly finding himself bearing down on the goal. From a tight angle he coolly slotted the ball past the Torps GK to give Vincent’s a well-deserved victory. Clifton St. Vincent’s 2 – 1 Torpedo A The Torps players desperately enquired how much time left to the Ref who replied ….”15 seconds”. Final Score. Clifton St. Vincent’s 2 – 1 Torpedo A MoM– Very close this week with a tie of 4 votes each, so jointly awarded to Mansfield / Carvell. Line up –A Cooper, M Lopez-Bland, T Downes, T Stock , J Pearce , M Stanleigh, P Mansfield , R Todd, M Carvell , L Finney , S Ellett , W Hornby , |
A Team | vs | Racing Mouse |
All Saints Cup | Saturday November 27 2021
Result. Racing Mouse 0 - 8 Clifton St. Vincent’s A’s The A team started their Norman Hardy campaign cautiously not know how the high flying Racing Mouse of the 4th div were going to line up or what was going to be thrown at them. After a fairly uneventful first 25 minutes in which the Mouse keeper pulled off some impressive saves but seemed to drop every ball he caught? Miller capitalised to score the first goal from a dropped Wride shot. Davies then gave the keeper no hope with a powerful shot from the edge of the box and the 1st half ended with D.Wride following up another dropped shot to make it 3-0 at half time. The second half continued how the first ended with Scanlon, D.Wride and Miller adding to the score sheet again. D.Wride finished his hat-trick with a lazy lob from outside the box after spotting the keeper off his line. Miller then completed his hat-trick with a solo run to fire past the keeper into the far corner. With the game closing out the 2 centre backs were being polar opposites with instructing the team, M.Wride demanding more from the defence and midfield to make sure the clean sheet was kept. While Campbell was encouraging the team with “we want more” and “lets make it ten” and threats to start singing. MOM went to Miller for his constant running and not giving the opposition an inch and of course his hat-trick helped too. |
Reserve Team | vs | Retainers 1st Team |
Norman Hardy Cup Competition | Saturday November 27 2021
A very strong freezing cold diagonal Downs wind made conditions very challenging. Sullivan Gardener (GK) was welcomed to the Reserve Team. Both teams started well and exchanges were fairly even with the conditions playing a huge role! Playing with the wind Clifton St.Vincent’s took the lead via an own goal directly from an early corner. Retainers 1st 0-1 Clifton St. Vincent’s Vincent’s were showing good tenacity and keeping Retainers on their toes with some good early football and pressure. Retainers were proving dangerous on the break with their forwards showing some good pace. Clifton lost lively winger Josh Stevens early on with a groin strain, Mike Wilson stepping seamlessly into that role for the rest of the game. Retainers continued to press throughout the first half showing some good approach play and were eventually rewarded with an equaliser. Half –Time Retainers 1st 1- 1 Clifton St. Vincent’s Reserves The second half continued much like the first with both sides fairly evenly matched and Clifton St. Vincent’s continuing to play some good football and harassing Retainers. The deadlock was eventually broken when Mr Reliable stepped up to slot a good goal again. The game continued to ebb and flow with Vincent’s maintaining their work and commitment levels right to the very end. The highlight of the second half was Mark Aplin hitting the right hand upright from close in following an excellent side step and swerve in the box. This was another good “team” performance and all players should be commended for their attitude and commitment against a good solid first division team. Let’s make sure this continues! Result. Retainers 1-2 Clifton St. Vincent’s MoM was given to James Handley for a very good tenacious performance from midfield. Line-up. S Gardener, O Hermann, N Howell, C Rastell, A Kershaw, Josh Stevens, A Roberts, J Handley, A Pembroke, T Brennand, M Aplin, M Wilson. |
